About The Event
Ingi Bjarni Trio brings together three active musicians from Iceland and the Faroe Islands. The members of the trio are: Ingi Bjarni Skúlason from Iceland on piano, Bárður Reinert Poulsen (The Fjords, Espen Berg Trio) from the Faroe Islands on bass and Magnús Trygvason Eliassen (ADHD, amiina) from Iceland on drums. The trio has played at festivals like Nordic Jazz Comets, Jazzahead (clubnight), VetrarJazz, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Reykjavík Jazz Festival, and more.
Their latest album “Fundur” is now out on New York-based label Dot Time Records. The music can be described as emotional, contemplative, and personal. The initial concept for the recording was the north. We looked to the north, north which is home for us, and we explored what could be found there. Did we find some connection to our roots? To describe what we have found; it is our own kind of folk music with the freedom of expressiveness and space for both lyrical and free improvisation. The title of the album, Fundur, translates to: a finding/discovery or “to have found something".
"Ingi Bjarni's creativity is to be admired, and his bassist and drummer have clear empathy with his writing. This is emotionally-conceived piano trio music to focus on and savour – an engaging ‘fundur’, for sure." - London Jazz News
"Ingi Bjarni fluidly melds the extreme landscapes of his native Iceland with an innate, resilient melodicism that shifts willfully within the body of his music like a slideshow of the wild Icelandic terrain." - All About Jazz
